1. Who We Are

AuPairPair is a social and connection app that helps au pairs and host families find and message one another, join interest groups, and share posts. We are the data controller responsible for your personal information. You can reach us at noreply@aupairpair.com.

2. Age Requirement

The App is intended only for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete that account and its data. If you believe a minor is using the App, please contact us.

3. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Account information: your name, username, and email address. Your password is handled securely by our authentication provider and is never stored by us in readable form.
• Profile information: your age, city, country, biography, availability, languages, interests, and the photos you choose to upload.
• Content you create: messages you send to other users, posts and comments in groups and the public feed, and likes.
• Reports and moderation: if you report another user or content, we collect the report details you submit.

Information collected automatically

• Location data: with your permission, we collect your device's approximate or precise location (latitude and longitude) to show you nearby users and to display distance. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings; some features may be limited if you do.
• Usage and activity data: such as the time you were last active in the App, used to show activity indicators to your matches.
• Device and technical data: such as the App version and a push-notification token used to deliver notifications to your device.

4. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your account and profile.
• To match you with, and show you, relevant nearby users.
• To enable messaging, groups, posts, and other core features.
• To send you push notifications about matches, messages, and activity (you can control these in the App's notification settings, and disable them in your device settings).
• To send you essential account emails, such as password resets.
• To keep the App safe — detecting, investigating, and acting on abuse, spam, or violations of our terms, including warnings, timeouts, and bans.
• To comply with legal obligations.

5. Legal Bases for Processing (EU/EEA/UK Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract — to provide the App's core features you sign up for.
• Consent — for location access and push notifications. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legitimate interests — to keep the App secure and prevent abuse, in a way that does not override your rights.
• Legal obligation — where we must process data to comply with the law.

6. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

• With other users: your profile (name, age, city/country, bio, photos, languages, interests) and the content you post are visible to other users of the App. Messages are shared with the recipient you send them to. Your approximate distance may be shown to nearby users.
• With service providers: we use trusted third parties to operate the App (see Section 7). They process data only on our behalf and under contract.
• For legal reasons: if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or others.

7. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following providers, who process your data as part of delivering the App:

• Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and real-time messaging infrastructure.
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
• Resend — delivery of transactional emails such as password resets.

Each provider maintains its own privacy and security practices. We encourage you to review their policies.

8. International Data Transfers

Because we and our service providers operate in different countries, your information may be processed and stored outside of your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data when it is transferred internationally.

9. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data (much of which you can edit directly in your profile).
• Erasure — request deletion of your data, or delete your account directly in the App.
• Restriction and objection — limit or object to certain processing.
• Portability — receive your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent — for location and notifications, at any time.

California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls on our backend. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
